Building character, confidence, athletic skill and pride in our program
is the mission of Springwood Athletics. Sportsmanship, teamwork and fair
play are valuable life lessons that Springwood’s athletic program endorses
in our Christian environment. We offer a variety of competitive sports
and believe our program is one of the best in the Alabama Independent Schools
Association (AISA). Our coaches are experienced, dedicated men and women
who strive for excellence both on and off the field. Currently, 86% of
our junior high and high school students participate in one or more sports
during the school year. To be eligible to participate, the student must
first concentrate on their academic standing. Over the years we have had
many students selected for All-Region and All-State teams as well as for
college athletic scholarships. Springwood teams have won multiple state
championships in almost every sport. Our successful athletic program is
a result of enthusiastic students, dedicated coaches and supportive parents,
faculty and administration!
Expectations of Springwood Athletes
Excellence in:
Preparation – Preparation begins in the off-season and continues until
games time. Be mentally and physically prepared to compete like the champion
you are.
Practice – No one outworks a Wildcat. Giving 110% improves yourself and
motivates your teammates to accomplish more than they thought possible.
Performance – Perform with the skill of a warrior and the character of
a champion.
Team Philosophy of Competition
The Word “competition” comes from the Latin word “com-petere” which means “to strive with.” In this original meaning the focus is on competing with one another – not against one another. That embodies our Springwood philosophy. We seek to help our student athletes achieve their personal best through the challenge and support of teammates. Students realize their personal best when their best efforts push them to excel beyond what they could achieve in isolation. Team wins are just one of our goals. Personal character development is the primary goal. The character we seek to develop through our athletic program includes commitment, diligence, and perseverance. Our preparation will encourage each athlete to pursue his/her personal best. When improving their personal best becomes the goal, the desire to cheat – or win at any cost – is eliminated. In the long run, this kind of character maximizes performance as the student athlete brigs to bear the inner strengths by which we challenge ourselves to get the most from our God-given talent. As we make excellence and character the bedrock of our team, the wins will take care of themselves.
