April 20, 2007
On April 20, 2007, the community became the classroom for Springwood students, faculty, and parent volunteers. Springwood
participated in hands-on projects in the Valley area from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and followed up the morning's work with a picnic lunch at the school. Wildcat Workday
was a wonderful opportunity for Springwood students to serve our community and at the same time raise money for the school.
On Wildcat Workday 2008, over 400
Springwood volunteers completed 25 projects in 4 hours and
raised $26,000 for the school.
Now it is time to plan our 2008 Wildcat Workday projects. We want to know about the needs in the community. Please help us identify individuals, groups, or organizations that can use assistance in some way.
We believe that participating in Wildcat Workday helps to give our students a feeling of connection to their community as well as gives them the positive value of volunteerism and service to others. As you know, our students raise money through sponsors who believe in supporting education at Springwood, as well as helping out in the community.
through that information with your child.
Business sponsorships are also a
significant part of the success of Wildcat Workday. Last year we
were grateful for the support of 39 local businesses. Business
names and logos appear on the back of the Wildcat Workday
t-shirts.
Join with our students as they put lessons in community service and character education to work throughout the community. Please consider being a 2008 Wildcat Workday volunteer. We will need many volunteers to help transport students to and from the jobsites, as well as volunteers to work with and supervise students. Also, we need assistance setting up, serving, and cleaning up our picnic lunch.
Please contact me at 334-644-2123 or ahixon@springwoodschool.com to tell me about any potential projects that you know of and also to volunteer to help. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Ann Hixon
