WILDCAT WORKDAY - 2009

Plans are well underway for “Wildcat Workday 2009” on Friday, April 17.  The community will again become the classroom for Springwood students, faculty, and parent volunteers. This is a great opportunity for Springwood students to serve our community and at the same time raise money for the school.  Wildcat Workday fundraising directly benefits every Springwood student. Participating in Wildcat Workday helps to give our students a feeling of connection to their community as well as gives them the positive value of volunteerism and service to others.

Students raise money through sponsors who believe in supporting education at Springwood, as well as helping out in the community.  Students are encouraged to ask family and local businesses to be sponsors for our 2009 Wildcat Workday.  We appreciate the generous support from our families, trustees, alumni, grandparents, friends, and our corporate sponsors.  Business sponsorships are also a significant part of the success of Wildcat Workday.  Business names and logos will appear on the back of the workday t-shirts as well as listed on the cover of the 2009-2010 Springwood School directory.

Jr. and Sr. High students will work together in their Springwood Advisory groups, which consist of students and faculty advisors.  Elementary students will work by class with their teacher being the leader.  Many volunteers are needed to help transport students to and from the jobsites, as well as volunteers to work with and supervise students.

Please contact the school if you would like to volunteer to help with “Wildcat Workday 2009”.

SPRINGWOOD ART STUDENTS AT GEORGIA STATE CAPITOL
Springwood art students, Eric Jones (10th) and Kallie Turner (8th) met with their State Representative, Mr. Vance Smith, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Georgia State Capitol.  Both Eric and Kallie had their artwork selected to be in the Georgia Art Education Association’s Capitol Art Exhibit in Atlanta. State Representatives were contacted by art students involved in the show and invited to attend the art exhibition reception.  Springwood’s Eric Jones said, “I think it is really cool how the representatives made time to come meet us personally and look at our artwork.” The Capital Art Exhibit has traditionally been the “kick-off” event for Youth Art Month, an annual observance in March, which emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support for quality school programs.  The Springwood students also had the opportunity to meet with Georgia State Representatives, Carl Van Epps and Randy Nix, as well as State Superintendent, Cathy Cox.
