Springwood School has developed a specific, yet unique plan for instructional technology. A copy of the complete technology plan is available for review in the school office.
The primary goal is to use technology to enhance the educational experience for
all students attending Springwood School. The vision includes providing classroom
technology for teachers such as wireless laptops, scanners, digital cameras,
projection devices, and interactive white boards. Teachers also have a wealth of
new instructional material obtained by downloading digital videos and accessing
informative Internet sites. As teacher expertise and laptop affordability improve
personal computers for appropriate-aged students will be considered.
Currently, there are 163 networked computers in use on the Springwood School Campus. The Internet is accessible from every computer. There are three computer labs and two mini labs plus a student computer in each classroom. Each teacher has their own laptop computer to use for instruction.
The typical classroom environment will be changed in response to the changing needs of the learner of the future. The classroom will become an independent learning laboratory. Teacher will guide discovery and learn in concert with the students. Interactive presentations using innovative equipment such as SMARTBoards and video projectors will add excitement to the task of learning. Students have access to information “anytime, anywhere” through high speed Internet access in every class and from every computer workstation. Technology used in the classroom is as complex as manipulating a computer program or as simple as using a pedometer to measure walking steps or ipods to create “podcasts”. Students might use their own wireless laptops, PDA’s or wireless
response devices to complete assignments. Students and teachers will communicate electronically through e-mails as well as through written communications.
Students and teachers will train to use the digital tools of the 21st Century.
In light of the changing needs of the learner, the Springwood School Board of Trustees is currently evaluating a plan for implementing a student tablet program for 2008.
